Essential Betting Terms: From Bump To Limp To Stack
After you’ve learned the basics of the poker game, then you want to learn the lingo so that you sound like a professional. But, it’s not necessary to win.

When you’re betting a few odd terms might come up. When you hear the word ‘bump,’ you are actually telling the dealer and the other players that you intend to raise the bets. You can say that you’re going to ‘bump’ the bet to twenty dollars. A similar term to this is to ‘kick it.’ When you ‘Kick it up’ then you are raising the bets.

To post a bet is to put in something without being there. A dealer can post a bet for you if you leave for a moment. Of course, this will only be done if the bet is something that you need to do, like an ante or a blind.

A limp is when you bet the absolute minimum on a hand; so, you’re limping into the hand.

A stack is a term for how much money you have at the time of the game. If you have a large stack, then you have a lot of money, but if you are short-stacked, then you’re getting to the end of your chips.

Other terms that you might need in poker include family pot, which is used when everyone at the table decides to play through the hand.

And as you play with friends and family, you may come up with other terms that suit your style of poker. That’s what makes it fun.
