| Omaha Poker Rules |
|
As a beginner, knowing the rules before you get into a game of Omaha poker can be the difference between being a novice and being a sucker. So let’s get on with learning the rules.
Omaha poker begins with an ante, followed by the dealing of four cards face down to each player in the group. The players can look at their hands and then place bets. The dealer gets rid of the top card (burn card) and then places three community cards face up for all of the players in the middle of the table (the flop). More betting is done at this point.
Another card is burned, and a fourth community card is placed face up on the table (4th street) with more betting to follow. And one last card is burned, with the next card placed face up for all to see and use to make a five card hand (the river, 5th street) and the last betting round begins.
When the betting is completed, the players show their hands and the best one wins.
One of the Omaha rules that you should note is that you must use two cards from the original four that you received in the five card hand that you make. Other than that, all of the rules of Hold’em poker still apply.
If you play Omaha Hi lo, then you need to know that you will be playing two different hands from a combination of two of the holecards that you have and three of the board cards that are up on the table. The player can then use the same combination for each hand or different combinations.
In Hi lo, there can also be a qualifying hand to continue play. If there is no qualifying hand, then the best Hi hand will win the entire pot of bets. |
